A self-balancing scooter (also hoverboard, self-balancing board, swegway) is a self-balancing personal transporter consisting of two motorized wheels connected to a pair of articulated pads on which the rider places their feet. The rider controls the speed by leaning forwards or backwards, and direction of travel by twisting the pads. Invented in its current form in early 2013, the device is the subject of complex patent disputes. Volume manufacture started in China in 2014. The device has three 6.5 inches, 8 inches (200 mm), 10 inches (250 mm) diameter wheel.
